We're Moving

I'm sorry to say that I have moved to Castro Valley, California about 30 miles from San Francisco.  Therefore, I will discontinue this blog.

Thanks for all the views and support!

Fayette Fishing Report - 17 July 2011 - Bass Gone Wild!

Weather predicted afternoon thunderstorm.  Dark ominous clouds most of the morning.  Bass were very active ahead of the storm, hitting on purple plastic worms. Bass were about ten feet down suspended over deeper water.  They were also relating to deep structure around this spot and points north.  Be extra careful inside the hazard markers.

The storm missed us, and the bite waned as the front passed.

Lots of catfish around this spot, and inside the timber to the south.   Slow afternoon with breathtaking robin-egg blue skies.

Towards sunset the bass moved into shallow water  I moved into one of my favorite spots here.  I got a couple of reaction strikes on a black spinnerbait but nothing hooked up.

Thunder and Heat

A combination of weather and personal obligations have kept me off the water for the past two weeks.  I wouldn't mind being driven off the water so often if it would only RAIN!  Forecast predicts afternoon thunderstorms all weekend, but I plan to hit Conroe tomorrow morning.

Fayette Fishing Report - 4th of July

Great way to end the long weekend!  Water still lightly stained and warm, but cooler than the West side of the lake.  The most productive spot was over some deep structure (map here) on the East side of the lake in between 15' and 20' of water.  Bait of the day was still the DT16 Rapala in "Bleeding Olive Shad".

Fayette Fishing Report

Great day on Lake Fayette, near La Grange.  Lake was not too crowded considering it's the start of a Holiday weekend.  Water is lightly stained with temperatures in the high 90's.  I saw plenty of dead bait-fish west of this location, which may indicate low oxygen levels caused by the high temperature.  Not much bass activity (not surprising considering the low O2 levels).  If you're after bass I suggest you focus on the East side of the lake.
However, catfish were biting on anything that could reach 18 feet or deeper.  Green Rapala DT18 crankbaits were a favorite, but they really were hitting anything that moves.  Also saw some deer, including two babies, near the power plant.

I cut the day short after rain moved in.

North Lake Conroe

Another day on the North end of Lake Conroe.  Launched near the Stubblefield Campground.  Water is darkly stained, ranging from Earl Gray near the campground to "Liquid Mud" further south.  Caught some small bass in the pond near the bridge on watermelon-seed green Gary Yamamoto senkos.

Headed south into the main lake.  I can see why they call it Stubblefield.  Interestingly, the water level is so low the north shore of the lake is now here.  Everything between this point and Stubblefield Road Bridge is now creeks and marshland.

Below is a picture of the north shore of Lake Conroe facing south, taken very close to the GPS mark linked above.  More Pictures on Picasa.
